Good idea, but ... : Auto Meter 9100 ECO Meter
This is a great little product. Installation was super easy. It took longer for me to figure out how to hide the cable then it did to actually start using it. It was pretty much plug and play in my 2012 car. I need to run through a couple of fill ups to validate the accuracy, but so far it seems to be pretty close already.
It comes with a small rubber foot piece that goes around the bottom of the unit. I recommend gluing this in place the day before you do your installation. Mine got dropped behind the dash never to be seen again. The velcro mounting seems surprisingly strong.
The faceplate is a glossy surface, but so are most gauges in cars these days. I quickly learned that angling the unit towards the driver eliminates glare in almost every situation. If you have this pointed down the middle of your, it's basically going to be a like a mirror pointing toward the cars behind you. Just like the gauges in most cars - angle it so that it points to the driver and the glare goes away, unless of course you yourself are wearing highly reflective materials like a mylar shirt or perhaps some disco outfit from the 1970's.
The cable should be long enough for most cars, though I did wish it was a touch longer so I could pick some different mounting locations. I settled for the top center of my dash in a 2012 Jeep Wrangler.
The face can also rotate 300+ degrees in total, so you can mount it sideways or even upside down and rotate the face plate as needed. Curious how this worked, I popped the unit apart to see inside. It's just soldered and stress glued to the board, so I wouldn't advise you turn it frequently, but it was plenty sturdy for rotating as needed for installation.
The gauge provides you instant fuel economy (my favorite), average fuel economy, speed and engine RPM. Compared to other much more expensive gauges I've seen online this is a great little bargain for a brightly colored plug and play gauge.
